p. 109 - 130 REVIEW OF THE HITHERTO RECORDED SPECIES OF CRUSTACEA DECAPODA FROM THE BOSPORUS, THE SEA OF MARMARA AND THE DARDANELLES G. J. Muller Romanian Marine Research Institute Constanta Abstract The Crustacea Decapoda of the Bosporus, the Sea of Marmara and the Dardanelles are reviewed in systematic order, under actualized scientific nomenclature, according to literature records and data obtained by own research. The stratified waters of the Sea of Marmara and its straits shelter 98 discernible species, belonging to 31 families, confined almost exclusively to the littoral system; very little is known about deep water Decapoda. According to the special temperature and salinity conditions within the superficial water layer of the marine district cocerned, its littoral system represents and intermidary habitat between the Mediter- ranea (Aegean) and Pontic realms, offering opportunity for physiological preselection and accomodation among northward migrating species, prior to their eventual penatration into the cold-temperature and mesohaline environment of the modern Black Sea.
