Abstract
Some biochemical and physiological aspects of gametogenic
cycle in Crassostrea gigas TH. growth on the Romanian 
Black Sea coast are presented. The changes in condition 
index and biochemical levels of the body components 
(water, ash, protein, lipid carbohydrate, aminoacids 
and energetic values) are directly dependent of the 
gametogenic cycle of the animal.During a study of the
reproductive cycle of C. gigas in a brackish water 
environment, the changes in the biochemical composition
are comparable with those for molluscs with semianual
breeding cycles.
