Abstract
The authors make a comparison between the biological
and fishery productivities of the Black Sea and its
neighbouring basins. The paper presents the evolution
of the catches taken from the Black Sea by countries
and species during the last 10-15 years. There are 
also presented the status and evolution of the pelagic
fish stocks in the Black Sea especially on the Romanian
shelf. The conclusion is that it is possible for the
Romanian fishing fleet in the Black Sea to increase
its catches, which has already been done during the
last few years.
